Ringwood, UK, 26th February 2014: A British team of design engineers and high-efficiency energy specialists today announce a world first with the launch of the Cassette Boiler, an innovative and unique solution that is the brainchild of British heating engineer and designer Luke Chamberlain and a true game-changer in this market. With a class-leading compact size, low cost and excellent efficiency and reliability the Cassette Boiler is set to revolutionise the way Housing Associations and their tenants heat their homes, delivering significant benefits to landlords, tenants and the environment.
The Cassette Boiler features a unique two-part, patented design that includes a wall bracket plumbed into the home’s hot water system and a removable boiler “Cassette” box. For maintenance and repair, the Cassette Boiler can be removed from the wall bracket without having to drain down, disconnect electrical connections or remove the flue pipe and is simply replaced by a new Cassette unit with the whole process taking no more than a few minutes.
Consisting of a compact HE boiler compressed into a small box, the future-proofed unit is specially built to allow it to be upgraded during the remanufacture process, with the latest components being fitted as and when future technologies become available. Since only front access is required and no clearance space is needed, the unit can fit within very confined spaces, making it the most space efficient combi / system boiler on the market.
Increased Convenience
When a conventional boiler has a problem it could typically result in lengthy repair times and multiple visits by a heating engineer. With a Cassette Boiler, replacement is completed within 15 minutes of the engineer arriving on site, leaving customers with a 100% guaranteed working boiler, which is always at optimum efficiency. In social housing, this means that the need for temporary heating and the cost that is incurred during a protracted boiler repair is completely removed. In addition, customers get peace of mind that their boiler is factory tested and certified to be totally safe and at optimal efficiency.
Reduced Costs
For Housing Associations, boiler servicing and repair costs, service contracts and extended warranty costs can be avoided – with a Cassette Boiler landlords can be confident that there will be no unexpected additional expenses incurred over the life of the contract. There’s no future purchase cost and no unexpected repair costs for life – and with a fast response time and 100% first-time issue resolution the Cassette Boiler can help landlords avoid unwanted expense and inconvenience to the tenant.
Due to the Cassette Boiler’s efficient operation, current estimates show a typical 13% saving on tenants’ gas bills compared to a conventional condensing boiler, and when replacing a traditional system boiler and 200 litre tank this could rise to over 30%. Since any possible downtime is minimised, a customer never has to go without a boiler, resulting in far less energy used by temporary replacements such as electric fan heaters and associated devices.
Environmental Benefits
The Cassette Boiler automatically modulates its output between 28Kw and 2.5Kw depending on demand to ensure it operates at optimum efficiency at all times, whether installed in a bedsit or a five-bedroom house. And in addition to typical savings on gas consumption, connections for solar panels, heat pumps and other sustainable energy sources are built in, making the Cassette Boiler the heart of a sustainable heating system.
Conventional gas boilers are typically replaced every 7 – 10 years, but because the Cassette Boiler is totally remanufactured each time it is maintained or repaired the environmental impact associated with raw materials, production, transportation, packaging and energy is dramatically reduced. When a Cassette boiler box is swapped out it is totally overhauled and remanufactured in the factory which can actually increase the boiler’s efficiency during its lifetime.
“With our Cassette Boiler we believe we’ve created a solution to a very real problem by minimising downtime and avoiding the inconvenience and expense that causes,” said Luke Chamberlain. “Our objective has been to reduce the costs, energy consumption and impact on the environment of our boilers over their whole life, from manufacture and installation to operation, maintenance and recycling. With the Cassette Boiler we feel we have succeeded in setting a new benchmark in the industry for boilers’ through-life sustainability.”
The Cassette boiler will on display at EcoBuild from 4th– 6th March at the ExCel, London, stand N2133.
