Transport for London selects Fleet Source to deliver TruckSmart, its latest Driver CPC course for HGV drivers
Letchworth, September 22nd, 2017 – Fleet Source, a leading provider of unrivalled training for the road transport industry, are delighted to announce that it has been selected by TfL as a provider of TruckSmart driver training, a dedicated seven hour training course for commercial HGV drivers which will be rolled out to the industry from October 2017.
TruckSmart driver training is a FORS accredited training course for all commercial HGV drivers with a supporting toolkit for Fleet Managers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to operate and manage safe and roadworthy vehicles.
Fleet Source were chosen by Transport for London following a process that measured tender submission against a set criteria. In relation to delivering the TruckSmart program, Fleet Source represented the best quality and value and as trusted providers of TfL courses such as Safe Urban Driving, were consequently chosen to deliver and roll out the TruckSmart programme from October 2017.
“TruckSmart represents another important innovation and addition to the FORS Professional suite of driver training programs aimed at improving driver professionalism and helping reduce incidents on today’s roads,” said Sam Weller, Freight and Fleet Project Manager, Transport for London. “We are pleased to announce that Fleet Source has been awarded the contract to deliver the TruckSmart program and as TfL’s principal contract for the delivery of our driver training programs, we look forward to working with them on the rollout of this new initiative.”
TruckSmart focuses on the importance of driving roadworthy HGVs and the role of the driver in ensuring that vehicles and loads are safe and legal at all times. Alongside TruckSmart driver training, there is an eLearning module. TruckSmart tracks a series of five themes. These five simple messages are echoed throughout the TruckSmart training course. They are:
- Know it: a safe vehicle matters
- Check it: walk around before, during and after journeys
- Load it: plan and position your load safely
- Secure it: secure your load correctly
- Report it: record problems and take action
“We feel that TruckSmart is essential training for all HGV commercial drivers, regardless of their area of operation, ” said Nick Caesari, Managing Director at Fleet Source. “The training will raise levels of knowledge to enhance awareness of the importance of HGV safety and their own roles and responsibilities in ensuring that HGVs are safe and roadworthy at all times. We are delighted to have been chosen as Transport for London‘s provider of this training and we are looking forward to delivering the training,” Caesari concluded.
